About

Initiative Minderheiten

With the founding of Initiative Minderheiten in 1991, the first Organization with a broader Definition of Minorities has been existing in Austria. Minorities, in our understanding of the term, are people, who are discriminated against because of their Ethnicity, Sexuality, Religion or Disability. In Austria, this includes ethnic Minorities, Migrants, Refugees and Asylum seekers, LGBTIQs and People with Disability. This concept of minority is not based on the number people belonging to one of these groups, but rather on their experience of Discrimination, Racism and Homophobia. Among our strategies for creating a better place for all minorities in Austria, the building of alliances and coalitions between different minorities plays a crucial role.
