Aus der Begründung der Jury:

„Birgitt Haller und die Initiative Minderheiten stehen u. a. für das wichtige demokratiepolitische Thema der Stärkung der Schwachen in der Gesellschaft und dafür, dass eben diese Unterstützung einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Widerstandsfähigkeit unserer Demokratie leistet.“

Mit dem Demokratiepreis der Margaretha Lupac-Stiftung werden seit 2014 hervorragende Verdienste um den Parlamentarismus bzw. die Demokratie ausgezeichnet.
