Am 3. Dezember 1993 explodierten in der ORF-Minderheitenredaktion in Wien und beinahe zeitgleich in der Pfarre Hartberg zwei Briefbomben. Sie verletzten die Moderatorin Silvana Meixner und den Pfarrer und Flüchtlingshelfer August Janisch schwer. Weitere Briefbomben erhielten unter anderem der Wiener Bürgermeister Helmut Zilk und der Artikel-VII-Kulturverein der Steirischen Slowen*innen in Bad Radkersburg / Radgona. Der folgenschwerste Anschlag fand am 4. Februar 1995 im burgenländischen Oberwart statt. Vier Roma-Angehörige wurden getötet, als sie eine Tafel mit der Inschrift „Roma zurück nach Indien!“ entfernen wollten.

Die Terrorwelle dauerte bis zur Festnahme von Franz Fuchs im Jahr 1997 an. Insgesamt 25 Briefbomben und drei Spreng- bzw. Rohrbomben hatten 13 zum Teil Schwerverletzte und vier Tote zur Folge – alle Minderheitenangehörige oder ihre Unterstützer*innen.

Die Ausstellung „Man will uns ans Leben“ vermittelt historisches Wissen zum größten innenpolitischen Terror der Zweiten Republik und beleuchtet die Rolle des politisch-gesellschaftlichen Klimas der 1990er-Jahre für die Gewalttaten.
